I'm Nawid Samim. Nawid stands for bearing good news, whereas Samim means honesty. In respect to my name, I have always strived to be that sincere bringer of glad tidings. That is why I also map the histories many atlases skip.

While I'm involved in public policy within my community and international relations outside of it, a subject that I've loved throughout my life is history, which started with an infatuation for geography. At 4, I memorized all of the state capitals in the world, and by 5, I drew the world map by memory.

That is why my work on this website concerns digital history. I strive to make each of my pieces high-impact by displaying conflicts in angles never presented before. For instance, many cartographers in animation would display Spanish colonial holdings with de jure borders. But I prefer taking the hard way to show actual Indigenous control and challenge popular narratives present in modern-day map-making.

Every project on this website has taken me at least 50+ hours through the past 6 years I've begun researching these topics. I employ a variety of techniques and methodologies to ensure my maps are the most accurate they can be, pairing geospatial mapping and large-scale data analysis with traditional archival research, and using a variety of software like Adobe Photoshop and DaVinci Express.
